Weller Full Proof Bourbon is a wheated bourbon distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Bottled at 114 proof, this is the same proof as when the spirit entered the barrel for maturation. The Kentucky straight bourbon is bottled without chill filtration. Baked apples and vanilla are showcased on the nose, along with fiery cinnamon. The palate offers vanilla bean, baking spices, sour cherries, and cassia bark. The finish turns to the drier and more medicinal side, with spearmint, tannic oak, leather, and milk chocolate truffles. Quite sippable despite the high proof, with a pleasantly lengthy finish.
Having a nose of vanilla, dark cherries and caramel. On the palate, there is a balance of caramel and toasted oak. The finish is said to be long, with notes of crème brûlée and chocolate.
Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon has a nose of apple and cinnamon, with hints of vanilla and caramel. The initial flavor profile is sweet, with notes of peaches, pears and dried apricots. The flavors fade to a touch of cinnamon and baking spices and finish with notes of maple syrup and molasses.
Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon earned the Chairman's Trophy as the world's best bourbon at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2012 and 2013, scoring three points higher than Pappy Van Winkle's 23 Year Old Bourbon in 2012 and two points higher than Pappy Van Winkle's 20 Year Old Bourbon in 2013. In addition, the bourbon earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012 and was said to be "liquid gold" in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.
